In my opinion though, the interviewers of years gone by are a dying breed; in some cases that's not a bad thing.
But overall, I miss the older generation of interviewers who were either skilled at their craft in a serious way, or those with an 'alternative' approach like Stern.

I agree. Howard is a fantastic interviewer. I think one reason for that has been his own star power. Celebs WANT to be on the Stern show because he does have a huge audience. So often celeb interviews suck because everything is prearranged, so they're nothing more than commercials for a movie or book. Howard could get away with asking anything because he didn't care if the celeb got pissed or not - he didn't need access to them, they needed access to him.
