I paid like $3.50 for a bottle at whole foods. They said you can make a gallon for $2 (the cost of tea and sugar basically). And the scoby lasts forever since it splits and creates new ones almost every batch. I wonder if I can grow a scoby if I leave a store bought bottle out for a few weeks or if I'll have to order a dehydrated one from that site.

YEP, you can do it way cheap. Don't sugar it down too much you'll ruin it.
