I have a kid in high school now. And I can't believe that they do locker searches. It blows my mind.

When I was in high school we had to bring our own locks for our lockers. Now they are not ALLOWED to do that!!! It used to be a requirement. But now the govt. gives them a lock that the school officials have the master key to!!!

Funny thing is, when I was a kid in school...there were guns in every guys pickup truck gun rack in the school parking lot (knowledge and respect of guns), kids were allowed to pretty much wear whatever we wanted (and learned from social approval or disapproval from other kids what worked), we had privacy in our school lockers AND a lot of freedom of speech (I ran an "underground" comedy newspaper that belittled the principal and teachers in a very derogatory manner...the principal would call me to his office and even though he was pissed, all he could do was give me a good talking to).

We weren't coddled and controlled. And guess what? All these school shootings didn't happen, kids grew up healthy as they do now, when we turned 18 we could go to a bar and get a drink (though most of us already had fake ID's by the time we were 16).

Todays kids are like deers in the headlights when they finally cut the umbilical cord from mommy and daddy and the nanny state (usually in their 30's), and don't have a clue.
