In truth they're not ALL remakes. Here are all the movies set to hit theaters this summer:

There are several sequels and remakes in there but there are a lot of others that aren't, although I don't know how *original* they all are.
Pacific Rim looks like it has promise as an action sci-fi. And I see Vin Diesel has another Riddick coming out in Sept.
But yes the remakes are sometimes quite insideous. There are plenty of movies done over the last 90-odd years give or take that probably wouldn't be bad if given a modern re-write and a fresh do-over, but I don't see Point Break as being one of them. Certain films containing certain actors just stand on their own and really should simply be left alone. Some are even sacred.
Case in point: If someone were to try and remake the cult classic
The Warriors I would quite literally choke on my own vomit in disgust.
