Because our government doesn't track you from the day your born? I got a card from Social Security shortly after I born because I was assigned an SSN number, which in the run the IRS uses. Have a driver's licence number from DMV, which in turn is used by the police and insurance. Pretty much any company I do business with - cable company, cell phone, etc - has both my SSN and DL.
Yet you don't want the government to know you have a weapon who's only real purpose is to kill another person? Then again, in another thread you bitched because someone selling cocaine got arrested.
