Depends on when he was in the service. In the Navy (so I assume about the same time as the Marines) theyd did not start using MOS heavily until the 80's. I got out in 1982, I had heard some stuff about MOS and they started throwing around numbers but I never really knew what my MOS was. I was an Ocean Systems Technician and that is what I knew.
So, if he is saying he is recently a Marine but does not know shit about MOS then he is probably bullshit. If he was a Marine back in the 70's then he might not know shit aabout what an MOS is.
