David Beckham loses appeal to sue magazine over prostitute Irma Nici's false claims

DAVID Beckham has lost an appeal to sue a magazine that published a prostitute's false claims she had sex with him.

Bosnian Irma Nici, 27, said she had sex with Beckham at Claridges Hotel in London in 2007.

But Beckham, 37, was able to prove he was never at the hotel during the time in question, rather he was at hospital visiting his sick father Ted, who had suffered a heart attack.

He then attempted to sue In Touch magazine for $25 million in a Los Angeles court for publishing her false claims.

But a Los Angeles court found the claims were protected by US freedom of speech laws.

Beckham, who was playing for US football club LA Galaxy at the time, denied ever meeting Ms Nici, reported the Daily Mail.

The case was initially thrown out by a Los Angeles judge in 2010 after he ruled the magazine article wasn't libelous and was in the public interest. But Beckham appealed.

A spokesman for Beckham told the Daily Mirror: "This story has been proven to be false, the magazine now accepts it to be fabricated. However we will continue to prove the magazine showed purposeful intent."
