Good luck getting a decent short-term rental, especially during that time period when the biggest conventions of the year are in town back to back. And especially near the strip.

The locals rarely gamble on the strip anyway. The strip is a tourist trap. Check out the Summerlin area and gamble at Red Rock Casino or the other two near Boca Park. Sunset Casino and... fuck I forgot the other one and I live close to it. Santa Fe Station isnt far from those either. Or look near Aliante Casino or South Point Casino.
