Green River
It?s commonly known as the Green River Ordinance as Green River Wyoming passed a law in 1931 (Republican President Hoover) banning any door-to-door sales. The Supreme Court threw out the law.
But was changed to require peddlers to register with a town clerk or chief of police. Even today, you can find small, rural towns with the city limit sign and the sign underneath proclaiming ?Green River Ordinance Enforced.? It?s mostly to let wandering scam artists know that their house repairs and other scams usually directed at the elderly will get them jail time.
Also gives a level playing field for local merchants who have to buy a city license.
