Yes, that is typical.
The first job will typically impress you, and from there you get a sliding scale that never matches up to the first efforts.
While not always the case, it happens more times than not. To protect yourself, I recommend you get a contract, payment milestones, and structure your deal in a way that they keep motivated to complete the work. It's long term better for everyone. They do not accuse you of adding in extra stuff that was not part of the project, they only get paid when they complete each phase, and so forth.
