Canada needs the protection of the US.
If the US ever fell, Russia would take Alaska for the natural resources. There would probably be a war between Russia and Canada for Alaska, but Russia would win. It's anyone's guess how far Russia goes into Canada after that. Putin has already claimed the north pole is theirs.
