There was another story I read a while back about Dahmer and the police. He was driving and got pulled over. In his back seat he had a garbage bag with human remains in it. The cop that pulled him over saw it, asked what was in the bag and Dahmer told him just some old clothes he was going to donate. The cop had a suspicion it was something else, but decided to let it go.
This happened early on in his life so had the cop followed his guy and been able to find out what was really in the bag Dahmer would have been caught before killing several more people.
