With the way new TVs are manufactured these days, 3-4 yr. old sets are well past their prime already. They don't last like the old ones. We've replaced two flat screens that were both less than 2 yrs. old after the circuitry boards became fucked and the technician said they weren't fixable (one Akai and one RCA). He openly admitted a lot of manufacturers are making them more "disposable" these days - not stocking replacement parts.
