This may be just me, and I am sorry if this comes across as preaching to the choir or condescending, which is not my intention, but whenever ratios are that bad, of course first we look to see if there is a technical difficulty, or perhaps an event, i.e., outages, weather, holidays, elections, etc., but then we ask why the promo tool is not working and blame ourselves for not dialing in better ratios with improved ads, testing, rotating out the stuff that is not working.

In other words we never accept that generalized excuse "ratios suck"; we always think "we suck at getting better ratios".
Truth... but one of the most frustrating aspects of the celeb niche (btw I have @ 25 celeb niche sites) is competing with all the free "material" on the NSFW celeb gossip blogs and other free celeb photo and video sources. Guys can literally get their celeb fix w/o having to pay. It's similar, in a sense, to the free porn on the tubes dilemma to the porn surfer: Why pay when there are free sources?

It's also a delicate dance of teasing the surfer with just enough visuals to get them to sign up, without giving away too much to jack to, which is rampant on a lot of blogs, celeb or otherwise. Putting up tons of galleries showing all the goodies and then promoting sign-ups? Who's going to sign up when the galleries are enough to wank to... So, for me, it definitely is a "sell" and yes, tweaking the creatives is crucial.
