I did a little bit more reading into this and found that not only are carbohydrates a major cause of bad high cholesterol (by lowering HDL, increasing Triglycerides, and increasing LDL) , saturated fats actually do the opposite.
So basically the food pyramid most of us grew up with is promoting heart disease.
