In theory you are correct. However, in reality it doesn't work that way. I live in a country where it is next to impossible to legally obtain a firearm and it's incredibly expensive to buy them. So what do the locals do if they can't afford one or can't find one to steal? They make their own one shot pistols.

Point is, Pandora's box is open. People are going to find a way to get guns if they want them. And if they can't get them, they will make their own. It happens all over the world.

So long as guns exist on the planet, people will buy, sell, trade, and steal them. So long as there are bullets on the planet, people will use one of those guns or make their own to fire them. Even though I come from a family who approves of guns, I would be happy to see all of them gone. But you would have to take them from EVERYONE including the police and military, otherwise it wouldn't work.

Sure, you can take swimming lessons, driving lessons, wear a safety belt, take medicine, take shooting lessons, and anything else you can try to do to stay alive, but once you're dead you're dead. Then it doesn't matter. The problem with guns is that it is impossible to get them out of the hands of criminals. This fact holds true the world over. And you can't have a society where only the criminals have them. Gun control comes down to everyone is armed or no one is armed. I'll support either one, but if no one is armed, the criminals will still find a way to get them or make them.

That's just it, you can't. If they could, I'm all for it.

Please tell everyone how to do it. Explain to me (like I'm a 12 year old) how you are going to stop the buying, trading, stealing of firearms in a country that has over 200 million of them already in existence. How do you stop a "crazy" from acquiring a firearm without locking them all away or keeping them chained to the wall?

How do you stop a criminal from getting them?

They government can pass all the laws they want, it's a waste of time and paper. Trying to stop private gun sales (legal or illegal) is like trying to stop the sale of pussy. Never, ever gonna happen. There will always be someone willing to sell one to another person and there are always people who will steal them, even if they have to steal it from a family member.

There is no argument. What you have are people living la-la land dreaming of a gun free utopia, and reality. That's it. Where you choose to live is your decision, but I'm going to stay in reality where there are over 200 million personal firearms in the USA alone and nothing is going to stop someone for acquiring one of they want one.

Unless you find a way to not only find and destroy all 200+ million of them (and every bullet), but also completely ensure that no firearms will ever be imported from Mexico or another countries, legally or illegally, then there is no debate or argument to be had. And that doesn't even get into the problem of the authorities being the only people legally armed and criminals making their own.

Perhaps I argue like a 12 year old so that it is easily understood and digested by most of the posters on GFY, but at least I don't believe in fairy-tales like most of the kids around here.

Now if you all gather 'round, I'll tell you a bed time story. Once upon a time...
