Keep in mind that a LOT of those gun deaths are criminals killing other criminals.

Look at Chicago...gang members slaughtering gang members. That's been going on since the 1920's there.

Gangs in some cities kill each other every day in fights over "territory". (which is all due in some part to the govt.'s prohibition on drugs).
And the innocent people that they kill? They won't be any more "safer" if guns were made illegal.

Gangs don't really give a damn about laws.

I think our society would be well served to go after the CAUSE of people wanting to shoot other people in the first place.

Drug laws certainly have contributed to a LOT of violence (especially on the border with Mexico). Addressing that (stopping the "war on drugs") would cut gun violence down immediately.

As for what happened to those poor kids in Conn., there is no answer.
The govt and the law cannot protect us from mentally deranged people. That guy would have done what he did no matter what. If not a gun, he would have burnt those kids alive by setting fire to the school, or blew the school up and killed them...or even more horrible: killed them with a knife.

Some people are just born with mental problems. I don't think there is a realistic answer to trying to stop a single crazy individual from doing bad things.
