My kids send thank you notes for whatever it is they receive for Christmas, Birthdays, etc. My wife and I have taught them and now that they are older, expect it.
It's called instilling decency and good values within your kids, hoping that they carry the tradition on with their own offspring. It's common decency when somebody gives you something to say THANK YOU.
You must be a real asshole. I feel bad for your wife and kids. You are half of societies problem.
