"My family is Nike"

This is sports?.

LeBron a bit too Cavalier with his honesty

There was an astonishing moment on television the other night in which a young athlete gave an honest answer to an open question. Informed sources indicate it will never happen again, which is why I bring it up here.

LeBron James' can't-miss marketability as much as his athletic potential enabled him to afford a $50,000 ride in high school.
As part of a pre-performance professional run-up unlike anything in the history of sports, LeBron James -- who, we might as well go ahead and agree, has yet to so much as step foot in an NBA training camp, much less take a spot in an actual pro game -- appeared as a guest on Bob Costas's HBO show, "On the Record."

Costas, noting the $90 million contract James recently signed with Nike in advance of his being formally drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers, asked the high school graduate whether he felt his first allegiance was to the Cavs and the NBA, or to Nike.

James's response: "That's kind of a tough question, because right now my family is Nike. I don't have an NBA team right now. Once I get into the organization, I'm a team player. Once I get to know my teammates and coaches, I think it's going to be 50/50."
