Now my reply to someone who posted about middle class white schools being a haven for education. sorry but give me a fuckin' break.
Now while it is true that in areas where the student population is largely minority that school funding is lacking, the simple fact is we live in a society that discriminates against classes as well.
You'll find the same trouble in outlying rural areas as you do in inner city areas.
You'll also find that teachers will direct their attention and efforts towards children in their classes that fit a certain profile.
Children who come from a wealthier family, attractive children, children who are perceived to be more "well behaved," etc will get more attention.
Not only have I seen it with my own eyes through my public school career, but I have seen it when my brother who is 7 years younger went through school, and now as my nieces wind their way through the system.
Schools are all about peer pressure. Teachers and administrators even condone it, if it's applied towards a certain group of people.
In my school the classes broke down into these 3 major categories.
The preps, the goatropers *cowboys*, the heads.
I've seen preps harass the pot heads without any fear of retribution in class in front of teachers. Only when they reacted did the teachers attempt to control it.
Same goes with coaches, they would make fun of guys with long hair wearing raggy jeans and concert t-shirts and all the jocks in class would chime in.
It was like watching behind the scenes of the highschool in the breakfast club.
These teachers could care less about these kids, whether they fail or not is not their problem.
In fact they'd just rather pass them so they don't have to deal with them again.
But they sure as hell spent plenty of time with the preps.
I live in Las Vegas. A state that pulls in billions a year on tourism to the casinos but yet they can't get a budget worked up for the school system.
In fact they are trying to cut out the arts *you know damn well they won't touch the cool kids sports programs* they are even considering going to a 4 day school week because of a lack of teachers.
This place sucks goat mans ass.
