You can program it with your child's name, their favorite animal and fruit, and change the songs on it. It's definitely well worth the $20. It may be a bit old for the 5 month old, but they'll have it for awhile. My daughter sleeps with this thing every night now. When she gets into her crib, she turns it on and it says "Goodnight (CHILDS NAME)"
