I agree, but wonder if that's where the show is trying to show how Dexter is on some spiritual quest and deviating from his "code". He was so regimented for so long that he is starting to take risks, for which he could be rewarded, or as he pointed out for not killing Travis in the beginning when he had the chance, punished for it.
Last season for me was a little weak, but now that Deb knows, it should be an interesting season ahead.
