I think most guys out there would agree that crappy, trashy tats are bad and that a girl would look better without them, but many of the guys I know sees a girl with a cool tat and they are instantly interested in her. You may disagree all you like but that doesn't change the facts. Your experiences within your own social circles aren't a very valid way to assess such things.
There are many factors that could make a girl seem more wild and dangerous. Your friends are turned on by characteristics which could also come from a girl wearing a short skirt or riding a motorcycle. I know guys who like watching gangbang porn for the same reason. Most of them would not be interested in their wives being run through by a train.
