It's an unfortunate part of the business and I have to dedicate a certain amount of time each week to manage it.
I just recently caught a member from France who was ripping my videos and posting them on pornbb via rapidgator. It took some work to catch him but I finally did and reported him to CCBill fraud to get him on the blacklist.
He's been a member for a year now and has been sharing my content the entire time. Once Oron got shut down he moved to RapidShare but his account got closed so now he's moved onto RapidGator. I'm not exactly sure how much money they make by doing this but it's obviously worth the $29.95/month and the time it takes him to prepare screenshots, etc. Now that he's been blocked and all his links have been removed from RapidGator, he's complaining on pornbb that all his hard work has been wasted. So, right-click, Save As...is their definition of "hard word".
It's a small victory for me but it still feels good. This guy was grabbing the latest update hot off the press and posting it on pornbb like clock work. The thing that pissed me off the most is reading the comments and seeing the leechers praise him like he produced the video. They would even ask him questions about future updates and were even making special requests to see certain girls in future videos. These guys are complete morons.
After I got all the links pulled, one guy even posted this comment:
"Dude WTF no re-ups??? If so any one else got the guts to post them and stand up to these fuckers please.... Someone??? Anyone??? For Christ FUCKING SAKES..."
They don't see themselves as thieves, they think of themselves as "freedom fighters" and we're the enemy because we're preventing their "right" to download our content.
Their reasoning is that they will never buy porn in the first place so it's not taking business away from the site owner. They also don't understand that the uploader gets paid for the videos. They think they are all fighting for the same cause and he's just doing it to be a nice guy. I'm sure most of the users pay for the "premium" service from RG to download the files quicker so they are in fact paying for porn despite what they think.
I thought about offering stream only but it's very difficult to do that now and would piss off the honest paying members.
I checked into the forensic finger printing and got quoted $27K for the equipment and set-up. This would add a unique code to each downloaded video that could be tracked to the original downloader but there's always a work around and I think the code is removed if the video gets re-rendered, I'm not sure on that one yet.
I think most thieves are pretty lazy and wouldn't take the time to re-render a video unless it's something very unique and in high demand.
