I have run multiple tests with and without popunders and the results were:
1. Abandonment rate only .09% higher.
2. Page view volume only .03% lower.
I am sure it depends on the type of website you're running, what you're popping, and your conversion goals for your website. But in all of my tests on my client's websites the revenue from the popunder more than made up for the minor loss in the above stats. We also use cookies for repeat visitors and paying members, control the content on the pops we run, and mix up the messaging so repeat visitors aren't bombarded with the same type of site every time.
