Also does it matter in any way if buy my ram in 4 gig pieces or 8 gigs?
The motherboard can hold 128 gigs. With 8 slots available that means you need 8 x 16 gigs to fill that up. Does 16 gigs even exist? (not that i'm gonna do that ofcourse)
