In the newspaper, the police said the coke was worth $3.4 million. The city he got busted in wanted $140,000 in sales tax and the IRS wanted about $500,000 on money he would have never earned. He only did 3 years.
The police make up these outrageous numbers to lure more fools into the business to help keep their arrest numbers up and more people in prison.
Years ago, Forbes magazine did an article and stated the average gangbanger doing street corner sales probably could make better money at Burger King as the gang leaders took about 90% of the profits.
I used to laugh at the guys who didn't know anything about drugs, but were going to get a semi, go out to the ditchweed fields around here. Fill up the truck and magically find "Mr. Big" who would buy it all.
In police reports and press statements its allways the retail price value, not wholesale. Makes perfect sense.
