most routers are smart enough to accept either type. Normally straight through are for connecting computers to a hub andcrossover cables are used for connecting hub to hub. How you can tell is simple

wire 1 white with orange stripe
wire 2 orange
wire 3 white with green stripe
wire 4 blue
wire 5 white with blue stripe
wire 6 green
wire 7 white with brown stripe
wire 8 brown

Straight through are same at both ends

1 = 1
2 = 2
3 = 3
6 = 6

Crossed over change from one end to the other

1 = 3
2 = 6

3 = 1
6 = 2

Pins 4,5,7,8 are not used
