Spider living in ear canal of woman removed after five days
In the latest strange news, a spider crawled into a woman's ear canal and was living there for five days before doctors in China removed it Wednesday. As weird as it seems, during drought and heat waves, arachnids normally look for cooler places to hide, and ears are not off limits.
Thursday, the Huffington Post published the creepy-crawly story that sounds like something from a B-rated horror flick or scary movie during Halloween.
Doctors at China's Changsha Central Hospital met with a woman, only known as Ms. Lee, who complained about itching in her ear.
Who knew a spider had crawled in the woman's ear canal and was living there five days? Doctors didn't suspect anything like that until X-rays showed the hairy resident hiding.
The spider was flushed out with a saline solution because doctors feared if they tried using tools, it would just burrow deeper into the woman's ear.
Ms. Lee told doctors she was renovating a home and had fallen asleep. When she woke up, the itching began, but she never thought a spider had begin living in her ear.
Philip Koehler, an entomology professor at the University of Florida said this about spiders crawling in ear canals:
"The insects are probably entering the canal as harborage, for heat, and/or for moisture."
If a spider was living in your ear canal after crawling into it while you're sleeping, hopefully it's not mating season or egg-laying time.
