15 minutes can cause you a bunch of aggravation. F N Geico
Sunday morning I had an accident, no serious injuries no other cars directly involved.
I?m a little banged up but nothing I haven?t been through before. My dog was with me and he?s fine also. My problem is my insurance company,? Geico? or perhaps the adjuster.
I?ve been with Geico over 20 years and never had an accident.
It?s very obvious that the adjuster wants me to have the car repaired at a Geico certified
shop (what ever that is) and I want to have it done by a shop of my choice which is my right. Once I made that point clear to him his attitude changed and he told me ok then tell me where you want it done and I?ll make arrangements to have it towed there today. I said I don?t know yet I have to ask around or perhaps go the dealer I bought it from and see if they can do it. He said well we?re not going to pay storage fees for a vehicle to just sit at a shop; some of those fees are very high so please go to the dealer today and also stop at the place where the car is and sign a release giving us permission to pick up the vehicle.
Off I go to the dealer who said they can do the work and then to the shop that has the car to sign the release. First thing they said was, I see Geico is trying to get you to have the work done at one of their places, don?t let them run you around, take your time and be sure you?re comfortable with the shop that?s going to do the work. Basically he was a pretty decent guy and also took the time to go over my Vehicle (2011 Nissan Pathfinder)
Not every little problem it had from the accident but the serious and expensive work.
One thing he pointed out is that the frame was seriously bent.
When I got back to the house I called Geico to tell them about the frame.
I told them this entire excursion your adjuster is sending me on may be totally moot because the frame on the vehicle is seriously bent. A few minutes later the adjuster called and the following conversation took place. (Not verbatim)
I just want you to know a bent frame doesn?t mean a vehicle is totaled.
Well the vehicle has some very serious front end damage and now with a bent frame
I?m not sure if I would feel comfortable driving it again.
Doesn?t matter, we will fix it right.
How can you fix a bent frame?
Replace it if need be.
What about me, the customer, do I have a say in this?
Nope.
I have no say?
You can check the vehicle out after the work is complete and if
you have a valid complaint we will fix it.
You are going to use all OEM parts?
More than likely we will use after market but some of them are actually better than the OEM.
I think its best if we end this conversation, please go check the vehicle tomorrow and get back to me with your evaluation.
Well I can?t get there tomorrow, I?ll try for Thursday but I can?t promise.
That?s when I lost it.
What the fuck do you mean you can?t get there tomorrow, you ran me around all day and now you tell me you can?t get there, who the fuck do you think you are?
There?s no reason to get like that and I?m not going to listen to it, I?m doing the best I can for you, I?m filling in for another adjuster and I?m running all over the county.
Fuck You. Click.
Would anyone have first hand information as to my rights here, do I have to accept the vehicle under those conditions?
I?m sure by the way he?s speaking somewhere in the fine print of my policies
It?s going to substantiate what he?s saying but there are also governing laws pertaining a persons rights with insurance companies that trump their policy conditions. I just don?t recall the name of the agency.
Thanks.
