Just prior to WW2, Adolf Hitler was arguably the greatest leader in world history. He turned Germany's economic struggles around so quickly and so well that Germans worshiped him.
What if something similar happened in the US? What if our economy quickly returned to 1990s levels? The love for Hitler in Germany would be mirrored here in the US. Such a US president (and congress) could get away with anything they wanted.
That's when things would get scary in the US.
