I doubt aliens have been here. All the sightings and stuff is just government toys. They tested the blackbird and stealth for years before it went public. Who knows what else they tested in that time that they decided to shelf for one reason or another.
It is also possible at one time there was life on many of these planets but it died off. Humanoids have only been on earth for a very small percentage of its existance, and we might be gone in another thousand years.
