As far as the crazy old coot was concerned, ignoring multiple, obvious NO TRESPASSING signs was an aggressive act, and in his mind he acted appropriately.
The bottom line here is that while tragic and an obvious over reaction by an unbalanced person, the victim has absolutely no argument: had he not trespassed, ignoring multiple warning's, he'd be alive today and shilling his meat on another block.

I think you are defending the guy not just because you hate salemen as well but because you are a crazy old coot yourself as well.
Just for the sake of argument though and to shut you up (without shooting you) a condition for the Castle Doctrine:
creating a presumption
that a reasonable fear of death or bodily
injury exists under certain circumstances
Upon asking the salesguy replied that he was selling meat and not set out to kill him or hurt him. Even if the salesguy would have replied that he was there to steal Glen Becks Gold from some radioshow there would be no reasonable fear of death or bodily injury.
