Take all of the affiliates away and all you have is a product sitting on the shelf earning you nothing. So the affiliates make YOU $ from promoting the "product(s)" you offer. Now, how will you have affiliates selling your product so you can make $ when no one trusts you anymore or wants to deal with you?

A smart business person would do everything that they can to make potential resellers/affiliates happy. They would pay everything that was owed and make 100% sure that the affiliates can feel safe doing business with them again. In the end it would be a win/win, but you decided to not go that route, obviously.
