I'm not so sure the media plays that big of a role in it. Sure it can fan the flames a little bit, but I think parents and upbringing are a bigger part of it. I think racism is deeply ingrained in a lot of people and they either don't recognize it or admit it, but the freedom and anonymity of the internet gives them an outlet to say what they really feel.
