Because he fitted the myths best.
Example.
Jesus didn't die for our sins. One version. He died for fucking up the Jewish Priests trade in the Temple. And if there's one thing that will get executed it's fucking with a religious mans income. Other version. He proclaimed he was "King of the Jews." and executed as a rebel by the Romans in the way Romans executed rebels. All the time in those days.
People afterwards wrote the story that he fitted the prophecies. Which doesn't make it true.
In fact if you read up on it, many of the prophecies he supposedly fulfilled were the same as a Roman god.
