You need to shop around. Every bank is cheap at something. In the old days when I was running a mailorder some banks charged me $30 for cashing US$ cheques. Then I found a bank that charged $15 for batches of 5 cheques maximum so I paid $3 per cheque.
Within Europe all wires in Euros are now free btw.
