You're talking about "Black And Blue" album where they were auditioning guitarists to take Mick Taylor's place. Richards was there the whole time. I read his book "Life" last year...it's a very cool book and tells the tales of everything...including lots of quotes from other people who were with The Stones through the years.
Once they hired Ron Wood..they then embarked on a giant world tour in support of the album in 1975. Then Richards was busted for heroin in Canada and almost went to prison.
He was so "strung out" apparently that they hit the studio as soon as the legal problems were over and re-jumpstarted their career with the incredible "Some Girls" album. That was 1978 and Keith Richards was named "Most Valuable Player" that year by Musician magazine.
Keef pretty much worked his whole life while partying his ass off. Most people actually can do that. But not everyone's physiology is the same. "LiLo" seems pretty lightweight in her ability to handle her shit. Her best bet is just to NOT party...but that seems highly unlikely that will happen. lol
