Dude , the GPL explicitly allows you give away or resell GPL Licensed software. It also allows you to modify it then give it away or resell it. It's not even a grey area, it's explicitly stated in the license.
The real issue is that some developers license their commercial software using the GPL and then cry when people exercise their rights under the license.
