The show was pretty good overall.
First thing was Kool & The Gang. I would never have thought in a million years to have them open for Van Halen...but they were GREAT! Super tight. And they had the entire arena up and dancing. It was a complete surprise to me...but I felt they were perfect to open the show.
Now, on to Van Halen...David Lee is back to the way he was when I saw him in the early 80's, and that ain't a good thing. He sang when he wanted to. And the rest of the time he seemed to be in another world. lol
Eddie was just incredible on guitar. BUT...as always, the drum mix was horribly muddy and just didn't have any punch to it.
Overall though, I really enjoyed Van Halen tonight. They played quite a few of the songs off their new album. And of course they played all the old songs.
And even though Dave looks and acts like the comedian Steve Martin, you can't help but kinda root for him.
As I said earlier, the footage I saw of the tour on YouTube didn't sound all that great. But being there in person you get caught up in the whole vibe and the coolness of seeing David Lee and Eddie Van Halen together doing those songs that you remember.
So the nostalgia factor overrides the vocal problems for me and I have to say I had a great time.
