Google does not just rely on google.com but as we have seen they are looking long term with such as self drive cars. thus in 5 years time even if the websites make no money for google they have other things that should.

A phone app today thats popular may in a years time look old. They cost so little to buy people will just buy somthing new for fun.

Facebook has a problem, in that in some countries (such as the uk) they seem to have hit the peak, and in fact users (such as the uk) are dropping rather than rising.

To be honest facebook has a problem that its being used for others to snoop at them. kids will hate parents snooping on them. people hate there bosses seeing what they are up to.

if somone develops somthing that is simpler and avoids snooping, then they will haver a winner. basicly you need somthing thats a cross between facebook and twitter. somthing people can post on (online and via a phone) and post pics and short vid clips to. cut out the guff that facebook has. if you make it so you can select who can read in your threads and who cannot (ie you can select just a few friends that you wish to read (ie those you go to work with).

facebook is just full of guff that i bet most people do not use.

i can easily see somthing much better being developed. a much cleaner layout (like twitter used to look). in fact one thought would be you could have several threads - a bit like this forum. you can chat in each. one may be about school. While you can in facebook, its rather messy. for instance if you started a thread a year ago in facebook, its hard to find and you end up starting somthing new.

the reality is, a lot of people are not keen on facebook. they use it as it servs a purpose, but badly.
Well said sir, well said.
