As someone who has been a victim of identity theft TWICE, I can tell you first hand that you should do everything possible, including watermarking the ID as AdultKing suggests, when submitting your ID to anyone. You're begging for issues otherwise. You never really know who is behind any of these companies or what their real goal is, be it mainstream or adult.

Trust no one with your ID / passport. It can ruin your credit and make life very difficult for many years if someone uses them fraudulently.
