Paypal Gurus... question about shipping rates.

I have a site that sells actual goods that I sort of ignore... .but need to fix a few things on it. I threw up magento as a store cms but its kind of a mess and since there are only 70-ish products, I built a very nice, clean static site to use (because there is no easy way to upgrade my old version of magento to the latest and I hate the theme anyway)

What I want to do:

I want to create text links to use for each product that also calculate the shipping for teh shopping cart page.

To make the buttons work that I designed along with all the AJAX/Jquery stuff, i need to generate a link to use in the button code to add that product to the users cart.

That's pretty easy. I figured out you can click the email tab when you create a button and there is the actual text link to be used with any sort of graphics.

What I can't figure out:

How are shipping rates added to the shopping cart page. I mean I see the admin part to add the UPS/USPS account info to pull the lower rates etc. I see how to add weights/size etc to the product for shipping purposes. HOWEVER, I don't understand or see how shipping is tied in any way to that text link/button to actually buy the product or how shipping shows up on the cart page for the products the user has added.

My Question:

How do I generate a text link that has the shipping rates also added to the shopping cart page for each product?
