When I analyze the logic of it...not really. Most civilians that engage physically do not engage with the intent to kill or seriously injure their opponent...but once it becomes clear that one of the parties is attempting to kill or seriously injure...the picture is somewhat different.
Even if Zimmerman was the one that had physically attacked Trayvon first...once it became apparent that he was no match for Trayvon and Trayvon was banging his head against the ground/asphalt/concrete...which said action could cause serious injury or death...I can understand using a weapon and self defense coming into play under the law.
