If someone said they were secretly hurt when you didn't tell them "no" when you had the chance, I'm going to say they were probably using that as an excuse and nothing you could have done would have changed the inevitable outcome.

Or, look at it another way. If someone was so out of touch with themselves that they are bothered by it some years or even months later, they probably dont know enough about themselves to have settled down anyway.
