They practically give them away ($5 here) if you get the 90 gay script. Doctors are helping their patients get cheaper meds by prescribing more.
It skews the reality.

Who are the doctors that prescribed 90 days of pain meds? Never heard of that. 30 day supply is usually the max.
With my insurance plan you get two retail fills of drugs for $4. After that it is considered maintenance and if you don't move it to 90 mail order you pay 50%. If you move it to mail order you get 90 days for $4. There are no such limits by them for controlled substances because doctors won't write for 90 days anyway.
