We already control the flow of oil in the Middle East, and we have multiple naval bases in the area. If we wanted to shut down the flow of oil in the Middle East, we could should the the Persian Gulf instantly. By the US going into Iraq we've done just the opposite - destabilized the price oil through out the world.
