Our troops will never be pulled out of the Middle East, just like we haven't pulled out of other countries like Japan and Germany. They might not have bases in Iraq, I'm not sure what the arrangement is with the exact logistics but there will be large US bases very close to keep an eye on things.

I'm not confused at all. We've been ignoring Africa for decades and don't care, but if anything happens in the Middle East it's front page news. It's true, and I get that. But our oil doesn't come form the Middle East - It comes from Canada and Mexico. On top of that, the US is the world's third largest oil producer itself. The Middle East is important to Europe and China, not the US.
9/11 landed us in Afghanistan, a land locked country that has no oil. 9/11 has nothing to do about oil.
