Fancy chicken and ribs? Sounds like an oxymoron. If you were looking to get Southern-American style barbecue you shouldn't have expected the ribs to taste like any cow you've eaten, anyway; most barbecue joints use pork. Maybe next time go to a place run by an American expat.
