I think you answered your own question. Yes you can win, it'll cost you more to win than to give in and roll with it though.
I'd say if it involved a criminal record or such, fight it. otherwise, do the math and let that decide your answer. Whoop De Do about proving a point no one will know about. The cops don't care if you win or not, nor should you care about proving something to some pig you'll never see again and won't get through to anyway.
